Privacy Policy — Tunghai Honors Student App
Effective date: August 30, 2026
The Tunghai Honors Student App is an educational application that allows students to participate in courses administered through the associated instructor system.
Although the app was developed in connection with Tunghai University, it may also be used by instructors and students at other institutions.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app processes, how that information is used, and who controls it.
Who Controls Your Course Data
Student information in the app is associated with the courses in which the student is enrolled.
The instructor responsible for a course controls and manages the student data associated with that course through the instructor system. This includes access to course-related information submitted or generated through the app and the ability to manage students' participation in the course.
Where an instructor uses the system as part of their work for a university, school, or other institution, that institution may also have policies or legal responsibilities governing how student information is handled.
Students with questions about the use, correction, retention, or deletion of information connected with a particular course should normally contact the instructor responsible for that course in the first instance.
Information Processed by the App
The app processes information necessary to provide academic and administrative functions. Depending on the courses and features used, this may include:
- Account information, such as student ID, name, email address, and institutional affiliation.
- Course and enrollment information , including the courses in which a student is enrolled.
- Academic activity, including assignments, submissions, course progress, responses, and other information entered or submitted through the app.
- Attendance information, including records of classroom check-ins.
- Messages and communications sent or received through the app's chat and notification features.
- Device-session information necessary to recognize an authorized device and maintain a secure saved login.
- Push-notification information , including a device push token used to deliver notifications.
This information is processed to provide, secure, maintain, and administer the educational functions selected by the student's instructor.
The app does not sell student information.
Course Information and Academic Records
The particular information processed in a course depends on how the instructor has configured and uses that course.
For example, an instructor may use the system for attendance, assignments, course activities, communication, progress tracking, or other educational purposes.
Course-related information is made available through the system to the instructor responsible for that course.
Bluetooth
The app uses Bluetooth when a student chooses to check in for classroom attendance.
Bluetooth is used to detect a short-range classroom check-in signal broadcast by an instructor's device. The detected signal may be submitted to the server to verify that the student's device was physically near the classroom signal when the student checked in.
The app does not use Bluetooth to continuously monitor a student's surroundings or movements, and it does not use Bluetooth for general location tracking.
Bluetooth scanning occurs as part of the classroom check-in function.
Face ID, Touch ID, and Device Authentication
The app may allow a student to use Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode or PIN to unlock a saved login.
Biometric authentication is performed by the device operating system.
The Tunghai Honors Student App does not receive, collect, store, or transmit facial images, fingerprints, biometric templates, or the student's device passcode or PIN.
The app receives only the result of the device authentication process indicating whether authentication was successful.
Notifications
If a student enables push notifications, the app uses a device push token to deliver notifications such as course announcements, chat messages, reminders, or other information generated through the system.
Push notifications may be delivered using services provided by Apple and Google/Firebase.
Students can disable notifications through their device settings.
Third-Party Service Providers
The app uses third-party technical infrastructure to provide some of its functions. This includes:
- Supabase, for application database and backend services.
- Google Firebase, for push-notification delivery.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) , for delivery of notifications to Apple devices.
These providers may process technical or application information as necessary to provide their services.
The app does not provide student information to advertising networks or data brokers.
Tracking and Advertising
The Tunghai Honors Student App does not use student information for advertising.
The app does not contain third-party advertising and does not track students across unrelated apps or websites for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Access
Course-related student information is accessible through the associated instructor system to the instructor responsible for the relevant course.
Depending on the features used in a course, an instructor may be able to view information such as:
- enrollment and student identification information;
- attendance;
- course participation;
- assignments and submissions;
- responses and progress information; and
- communications associated with the course.
Access to information is intended to be limited to the educational and administrative functions of the system.
Data Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information processed through the app.
Saved device credentials and authentication tokens are protected using operating-system security facilities where available.
Passwords are not stored in plaintext by the app, and biometric information is not stored by the app.
No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Data Retention and Deletion
Retention of course-related information is primarily determined by the instructor responsible for the course and, where applicable, by the policies or requirements of the instructor's institution.
Information may need to be retained for academic administration, recordkeeping, assessment, integrity, legal, or institutional purposes even after a course has ended.
Information that is no longer required may be deleted or anonymized where appropriate.
Device-session information may be removed when a saved device session is revoked, expires, or is no longer required.
Access, Correction, and Deletion Requests
Students who wish to access, correct, or request deletion of information associated with a particular course should normally contact the instructor responsible for that course.
Because some information may form part of an academic or institutional record, an instructor or institution may not always be able to delete information immediately upon request.
Requests relating to the operation of the app itself, rather than a particular course, may be directed to:
Use by Other Institutions
The Tunghai Honors Student App may be used by instructors associated with institutions other than Tunghai University.
In such cases, course-related student information remains associated with the instructor and course using the system. The instructor's institution may impose its own privacy, data-protection, academic-record, or retention requirements.
Students should contact their instructor or institution if they have questions about institution-specific policies governing their information.
International Processing
Some technical service providers used by the app may process or store information in jurisdictions outside the student's country or region.
Where this occurs, information is processed through the relevant service provider's infrastructure and subject to the safeguards and terms applicable to that service.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the functions of the app, the services it uses, or its information-handling practices change.
The current version will be made available at the Privacy Policy URL associated with the app.
